As part of her CASA volunteering, she is tasked with providing testimony at regularly scheduled court dates for the family and provides another voice for the betterment of the children in the situation. Court Appointed Special Advocates advocate for abused and neglected children who are now involved in the court system.Īlmost immediately, she was assigned to a family and has regularly interacted with children in that family ever since. She recalls organizing a baby shower and building several strong relationships with the women who worked at the clubs and fondly recalls that time of her life.Īs an extension of her philanthropic side, Petersen recently began volunteering with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) during the summer - something her mother did for many years. She regularly visited the women who performed within the clubs to assure them that they were not alone. While living in the mile-high city, she participated in a nonprofit ministry called Beloved, which focused on visiting women who performed at strip clubs. Petersen’s courteous spirit has been a part of her for many years and manifested during her time in Denver, as well. I enjoy being able to help them,” she said. “I enjoy walking with families during probably the darkest time of their life. Though it may be a sensitive topic and difficult times for families, Petersen does all she can to be a lifting presence for aching hearts. “I walk alongside the family from the moment their loved one passes away until we finish whatever arrangements they would like,” she said. He worked as a high school physics teacher in the early years of their marriage, and Petersen continued her work as a barista at Starbucks. The two met during a conference at Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs and, not long after, the couple moved to live in Denver, which is Caleb’s hometown. ![]() She worked as a barista at Starbucks that year, and she also met her husband, Caleb, during that time. “I just really loved Greeley, I know a lot of people find that weird,” she said with a smile. After graduating in 2015, she decided to stick around Greeley for a year - a decision she concedes is unusual to some. Eastern Colorado beckoned to her when she attended UNC in Greeley and majored in communications. She grew up attending a Mountain View Core Knowledge School and graduated from Cañon City High School in 2010. It was a decision several decades in the making, however. On her mother’s side, she is a Holt and has decided to carry on the tradition of aiding aching families through the loss of their loved ones by participating in the family business at Holt Family Funeral Home. Petersen is the daughter of Rod and Beth Madone and is also a fifth-generation Fremont County resident. To keep spinning, the world must have a small population of people whose sole hope is to make the pain of others hurt a little bit less - a quality that Brooke Petersen has in spades.
